Could Governor Sam Brownback be headed for Italy? According to reports from Kansas Public Radio (KPR) Brownback, could be tapped for a position in the Trump administration, as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations agencies for food and agriculture.
A former high-ranking government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, tells Kansas Public Radio that Brownback will be named the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations agencies for food and agriculture in Rome. The last person to hold the job also says he's heard Brownback may be selected for the position. - KPRWhen asked to confirm reports, the Governors office would not confirm nor deny the appointment. However, the anonymous sources told KPR that it was a "done deal." Brownback's Communications Director Melika Willoughby repeatedly said that, “Brownback is focused on working with the Kansas Legislature to balance the budget and pass a modern school funding system.” If Brownback leaves his post, Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer would become governor.
Sources close to Brownback say the reports are premature, but as a former Senator and former State Agriculture Secretary, Brownback would be an excellent choice. Probably the most prominent holder of the position was George McGovern, who held the ambassadorship from 1998 to 2001.
