BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 1 seeded Baker University women's basketball team defeated rival number 4 MNU for the third time this season, as they defeated the Pioneers, 63-56, in the Heart of America Athletic Conference semifinals and will now host number 2 Benedictine in the Heart title game inside the Collins Center.
The Wildcats move to 28-4 on the year and have broken the school-record for wins in a season, which was previously held by the 2013-14 squad that went 27-7.
The Heart title game will tip off at 7:07 p.m. on Monday, March 6 and will feature the Ravens who are 25-7 on the year and just defeated number 3 Central Methodist, 61-46, in the Heart semifinals on Friday night.
Monday's championship game will be broadcast live worldwide on ESPN 3 and locally on television on KSMO-TV.
Baker defeated BC twice earlier in the season, 69-56, back on December 10 and 64-62 in Atchison, Kansas on February 11.
Sydnie Hanson led all players with 15 points and three other 'Cats scored in double figures, as Jessica Zweifel dropped 13, MacKenzie Cook also scored 13 and Sydney Buchel almost had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Cook also had eight boards.
The Wildcat defense held the Pioneers to just 30.9-percent from the floor and BU caused 14 Pioneer turnovers.
Baker outrebounded MNU, 42-32, and collected 10 offensive boards, three coming from Taylor Smith off the bench.
With a win Monday, Baker will capture its first-ever Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
