Scandal Alert: The next city government scandal is already in the "works". It may behoove this newspaper to do some investigative work and get to the bottom of this developing injustice and scam against taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteThe Baldwin City Library Board (appointed by the Mayor), has forced out the city's chief librarian into retirement that she was not ready for, nor requested.
The infinite wisdom of the Library Board is that they want to hire a new MLA-degreed librarian at almost 4 X's the salary. Yes, that's right, an MLA-degreed librarian has a salary range between $50,000 and $75,000 per year. Never mind that this extra degree brings almost nothing new to the library's operations or expertise in our small town.
What this action does accomplish is to "hire" the city manager's wife in this position through insider dealings and nepotism (but hey, let's don't expose this to voters and taxpayers. Most city business needs to be below the radar in this town so it benefits the insiders and cronies).
The Library Board is now called out on this, as is the mayor. This kind of corrupt dealings has NO place in our town.
Thank you for you concerns. From the official announce MS. Johnson retired. It was not a resignation. We try to remain positive and not focus on the negative. However, I would be interested in any proof.

ReplyDeleteI can assure you your information is incorrect as someone who was in this meeting. Why would you expect an "official announcement" from the same people who are responsible for this episode to be truthful? Ask those people who have nothing to hide. In addition, it is nepotism at it's worst to hire the city manager's wife at $75,000 a year. Not only does it ethically "stink", but that $75,000 comes from the library's endowment fund, donated by deceased patron's who would be very disappointed in the "insider" politics and waste of their money.
