Akim Francis Garners Heart Defensive Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Baker University senior linebacker Akim Francis earned his first Heart of America Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award announced on Monday by the conference office.

In Baker’s 42-21 win at number 22 Peru State, Francis led the number 3 ranked Wildcats with 12 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss for 20 yards. The Kissimmee, Florida native had a sack and forced fumble as well.

Francis leads the team with 44 total tackles and 10 tackles for loss for 36.5 yards. His 27 solo tackles also lead the ‘Cats.

The defense has held all six of its opponents this season to 27 points or less and ranks No. 5 in the nation in points allowed per game at 15.

Baker will next take on Avila University, on Saturday, October 15 at 6 p.m. inside Liston Stadium.
