MEN'S SOCCER: Number 10 Baker Earns Fourth Shut Out Win of 2016


BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 10 ranked Baker men’s soccer team improved to 4-2 in the young season after defeating the Park University Pirates 2-0 on Saturday.

The Wildcats were able to take control about midway through the first half, as Gonnie Ben-Tal knocked in a shot from 25 yards out to give Baker a 1-0 advantage over the Pirates.

BU was able to add to the lead just before halftime, with a goal coming from Kyle Young from an assist by Peyton Brown in the 44th minute.

The Wildcats put pressure on Park goalkeeper Thalu Masindi, shooting 12 times, with four of them on goal.

But Wildcats especially shined on the defensive end, allowing just three Park shots in the first half, with Nick Riggle saving the only shot on goal for the Pirates in the half.

For the game, the Pirates had only seven shots, and Riggle came away with his second consecutive shutout victory. All four of the Wildcats’ wins this year have come on shutouts.

Ben-Tal led Baker with four shots, while Austin Shiney added three.

Baker’s next game will be on the road, when they take on Clarke University on Saturday, September 17 in the ‘Cats Heart of America Athletic Conference season opener.
