Baker Football Climbs to Number. 4 in Latest Poll


BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – After an impressive 3-0 start to the 2016 season, the Baker University football team climbed from number 5 to number 4 in the first NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 of the regular season.

The Wildcats are led by three-time consecutive Heart Offensive Player of the Week quarterback Logan Brettell who ranks number 1 in the NAIA in total offense with 1,177 yards and the Wildcats are number 1 in the nation in passing offense per game at 452.

Baker defeated then-number 6 Grand View, 36-13, to begin the season then followed that with a record-breaking 89-27 win over Culver-Stockton. In the win over CSC, Baker scored a school-record 75 points in the first half.

In week three, Baker defeated then-number 23 William Penn, 41-7, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Kicker Clarence Clark also is number 1 in the nation in total scoring for a kicker with 26 points.

The Wildcat offense is also the highest scoring team in the country with a total of 166 points scored.

The ‘Cats are joined by four other teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference in this week’s poll, including number 8 Grand View, number 15 Benedictine, number 16 Missouri Valley and number 18 MNU.

Baker will next face Graceland this Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
