Baker Softball Splits Home Series with Missouri Valley


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After an impressive 8-0 win in five innings over Missouri Valley in game one, the Baker University softball team fell in game two to the Vikings, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

With the split, Baker moved to 26-23 overall and 6-10 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while Missouri Valley moved to 11-23 and 5-9.

In that first game, Olivia Brees was nearly unhittable, as she allowed just one hit in five innings, while striking out seven batters.

Stephanie Cardona jacked a three-run home run in the first inning and went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s.

Baker had 13 hits in the game, as Caitlin Hardgrove, Cardona, Ilona Miller, Kaitlin Saunders and Sloane Brady all had multi-hit games.

In game two, the Vikings went up early with four runs in the third inning and one in the fourth off of starter Teagan Louthan.

Then in the final inning, Baker made a furious comeback with four runs. Cari Vollenweider nearly tied the game up, as she slammed a single off of the top of the wall to make the score, 5-4. Then Hardgrove grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Sloane Brady had two RBI’s in game two, as did Vollenweider.

Baker will next travel to Canton, Missouri to face Culver-Stockton on Saturday, Apr. 16 at 11 a.m.
