WOMEN'S SOCCER: Number 13 Baker Upsets Number 12 Benedictine to Advance to the NAIA Fab Four

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama – For the first time since 2011, the number 13 Baker University women’s soccer team defeated number 12 Benedictine, this time they took down their Heart of America Athletic Conference rival in the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, 2-1, to advance to its second-ever NAIA Fab Four.

They will now face number 1 Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Friday, December 2 at 12 p.m. in the NAIA National Semifinals. It will mark the Wildcats’ first trip to the Fab Four since 2010.

Spring Arbor won the NAIA National Championship and ended the Wildcats’ 2015 season in the Second Round of the NAIA National Championship last season, 3-0.

SAU defeated number 8 Vanguard on Wednesday, 1-0, to advance to Friday’s national semifinals.

Benedictine struck first, as Liz Infen knocked in a goal in the 13th minute, but like they did in the NAIA Second Round against number 4 William Carey, the Wildcats stormed back with a goal in the 37th minute, as 2016 Heart Freshman of the Year Jenna Lattimer tied up the match with a goal, as they assist went to Jessica Hillebert and Kady Dieringer.

Two-time defending Heart Defensive Player of the Year Krista Hooper scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute off of the assist from Katie Hibbeler.

The Wildcats then hung on for the final 16 minutes to end its rival’s season. Baker improves to 17-3-3 on the year, while Benedictine ends its 2016 campaign 20-4.

Baker attempted 10 shots on the night with five on goal, while the Ravens attempted 12 shots and seven on goal.

Dieringer led Baker in shots with three, while Lattimer had a team high two shots on goal.

Rachel Hunt finished the night with five saves and each team was whistled for eight fouls.
