Baker Football Garners Five AFCA-NAIA All-Americans

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The number 2 ranked Baker University football team garnered five players on the 2016 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)-NAIA All-America Team announced on Tuesday, headlined by First Time Quarterback Logan Brettell.

The four other Wildcats to earn the prestigious All-America award include Second Team Defense, defensive lineman Josh Kock, Second Team Defense, safety Darrain Winston, Second Team, kicker Clarence Clark and Second Team athlete Cornell Brown.

This marks the second-straight season Clarence Clark was named an All-American, as he was a First Team All-America wide receiver a year ago.

Brettell continues to rack up honors in 2016, as he was named the 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference Southern Division Offensive Player of the Year and became Baker’s first-ever 2016 CoSIDA College Division Academic All-American of the Year earlier this season.

The junior QB and the Baker offense ranks number 1 in the country in total passing offense with 5,169 yards and number 2 in scoring offense with 698 points. He is the nations leader in passing touchdowns with 51 and the NAIA’s leader in total offensive yards with 5,092.

Kock and Winston are both 2016 Heart of America Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference award winners and Kock is the two-time defending Heart of America Athletic Conference Southern Division Defensive Player of the Year.

Winston leads the NAIA in interceptions with 10 and has 49 tackles on the season. Kock is the team leader in sacks with 11.5 and second on the team in tackles for loss with 17.

Clark leads the country in total scoring as a kicker with 119 and is the schools leader in total points. He also broke a school record this season for most extra points made in a career. The junior has made 86 extra points this season and 11 field goals.

Brown is Baker’s single season leader in rushing touchdowns with 23, as he broke that mark this season and he leads the Wildcats in receptions with 82.

Baker is a perfect 14-0 on the year and will face number 4 ranked University of St. Francis (Ind.) tomorrow Saturday, December 17 at 5 p.m. CST in the NAIA-FCS National Championship game, presented by Waste Pro in Daytona Beach, Florida.
