Number 2 Baker Women's Soccer Defeats Number 7 CSC in Heart Quarterfinals, 2-1

Press release submitted by Tyler Price, Baker University Assistant Athletic Director

ATCHISON, Kansas – The number 2 seeded Baker University women’s soccer team advances to the semifinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament after a 2-1 victory over number 7 Culver-Stockton College on Friday.

Baker struck first with a Kady Dieringer goal, assisted by Krista Hooper in the 24th minute. The Wildcats took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Dieringer led the team in shots with four for the game and the Wildcats outshot CSC 14-3 overall.

Culver-Stockton was able to tie the game up in the 60th minute, when Kira McGrotty broke through the Wildcat defense to score. That was the only shot for McGrotty in the game, and one of just two shots on goal for Culver-Stockton in the entire game.

The Wildcats had the ball on C-SC’s side of the field for virtually the final 15:00 of the game, before Katie Hibbeler scored on a cross from Maria Flores-Tome in the 88th minute to give the Wildcats a late 2-1 lead.

Mikkel Parrot of Culver-Stockton had an open chance at the goal with 1:03 left in the game, but the shot went high, and the Wildcats were able to preserve the victory.

The Wildcats will take on number 3 MidAmerica Nazarene University on Tuesday inside Liston Stadium at 7 p.m., as the Pioneers defeated Graceland University 3-2 Friday to move on to the semifinals.

Baker defeated MNU, 3-2, on September 27 earlier this season, also at Liston Stadium.
