More than $1 million pledged to charities in annual Your Gift, Your Choice campaign.
Topeka, KS – Westar Energy employees set a record this year, donating
more than $586,000 to area organizations through the annual Your Gift, Your Choice fundraising
drive. With the company match, more than $1.1 million will be donated to charities in
2018.
“I’m proud of our employees as they readily give their treasure and their talent to local
charities,” Mark Ruelle, president and chief executive officer, said. “We set goals of increased
giving and increased participation again this year, and they met both. Westar Energy is happy to
match their gift. It’s a great investment in our community.”
Your Gift, Your Choice provides employees the opportunity to suggest charities they
would like included as potential recipients of employee giving. During the campaign, employees
select from organizations in their area to direct their pledge and the company match. This year
more than 70 percent of employees made pledges and donations will go to more than 90 area
charities.
