TOPEKA, KS – The Kansas Humanities Council (KHC) recently awarded the Great Plains United Methodist Conference a $1,845 grant for the “Kansas United Methodist Genealogical Resources Digitization Project.” Sara DeCaro serves as the project director.
The project will take place in the Kansas area archive of the Great Plains Conference, located in Baldwin City on the Baker University campus. It aims to digitize 500 pages of United Methodist archival material from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These include membership, baptism, and marriage records, as well as individual Kansas church histories and photographs.
“KHC Heritage grants encourage the preservation of local cultural resources,” said Jul ie Mulvihill, executive director of the Kansas Humanities Council. “This project presents a unique opportunity to preserve and share documents related to the church’s early history in Kansas.”
The Kansas Humanities Council is a nonprofit organization that supports community-
based cultural programs, serves as a financial resource through an active
grant-making program, and encourages Kansans to engage in the civic and
