DCF Acting Secretary Receives Unanimous Support in First Confirmation Hearing

TOPEKA – Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) Acting Secretary Gina Meier-Hummel stood before the Senate Health and Welfare Committee on March 9, Topeka, to face her first confirmation vote.

During her testimony, Secretary Meier-Hummel shared details of her professional experience and vision for transforming the agency. At the conclusion of the hearing, committee members cast a unanimous vote to move her confirmation forward for a full Senate vote, expected early next week, according to Committee Chairwoman Vicki Schmidt.

“I am so grateful for the bi-partisan support of the Committee,” Secretary Meier-Hummel said. “Over the last three months in this role, we have begun work and are committed to making significant improvements to make DCF more transparent and accountable. My hope is that I will receive the support of the full Senate to continue this important work for the well-being of Kansas’ children and families.”

Committee members expressed their appreciation to Secretary Meier-Hummel, after accepting the role and making immediate and significant changes in a short amount of time.

Secretary Meier-Hummel’s experience includes 25 years as a Kansas social worker, prior roles within KVC, Social and Rehabilitation Services (now DCF), and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. The Lawrence resident is a Topeka native, married with three children.
