Baker Football to Begin 2016 Ranked Number. 5


BALDWIN CITY, Kan. Defending Heart of America Athletic Conference Southern Division champion Baker University will look to defend its crown in 2016 as the Number 5 ranked team in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll, announced by the national office.

The Wildcats received 267 total points in the poll, and one spot ahead of Heart Northern Division champion Grand View.

Number 5 Baker and Number 6 Grand View will open up the 2016 season inside Liston Stadium at 1 p.m.

Other ranked teams from the Heart include Number 15 Benedictine and No. 23 William Penn.

Baker will face Benedictine on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m. inside Liston Stadium on Baker’s Homecoming, while they take on William Penn on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa, that game will be broadcast worldwide on ESPN 3.

MNU and Missouri Valley received votes in this week’s poll with four and three each respectivelya.

The Wildcats finished 2015 with an overall record of 11-2 and went a perfect 5-0 in the Heart South. They captured its second conference title in three years and qualified for its third NAIA FCS Playoff appearance in the last four years.
