Methodist Archives at Baker University Awarded Grant

TOPEKA, KS – The Kansas Humanities Council (KHC) recently awarded the Great Plains United Methodist Conference a $1,845 grant for the “Kansas United Methodist Genealogical Resources Digitization Project.” Sara DeCaro serves as the project director.

The project will take place in the Kansas area archive of the Great Plains Conference, located in Baldwin City on the Baker University campus. It aims to digitize 500 pages of United Methodist archival material from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These include membership, baptism, and marriage records, as well as individual Kansas church histories and photographs.

“KHC Heritage grants encourage the preservation of local cultural resources,” said Jul ie Mulvihill, executive director of the Kansas Humanities Council. “This project presents a unique opportunity to preserve and share documents related to the church’s early history in Kansas.”

The Kansas Humanities Council is a nonprofit organization that supports community-
based cultural programs, serves as a financial resource through an active
grant-making program, and encourages Kansans to engage in the civic and
cultural life of their communities. For more information, visit www.kansashumanities.org.

PD Learning Network and Cyberwise Partner to Provide Badges for Digital Literacy Training for K12 Educators

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) - PD Learning Network (PDLN) announces a new partnership with Cyberwise to provide competency-based micro-credential badges for K-12 educators with the new course “Digital Literacy for Teachers and Administrators.” Through a partnership between PDLN and University of the Pacific, educators will also be able to earn professional development units for their work.
“Pairing the definitive Cyberwise digital literacy curriculum with micro-credential badges makes perfect sense,” explained Jennifer Gibson, CEO and co-found of PDLN. “The content is central to the success of 21st century students, and micro-credential badging is becoming an important way professionals build and demonstrate skills.”
Cyberwise, with input from other digital and media literacy experts, educators, media psychologists, law enforcement officers, privacy and security experts, health professionals and more, develops video and other digital curriculum for adults and youth to help them learn to be wise and safe online.
The partnership course features Cyberwise’s comprehensive “No Grownup Left Behind” curriculum that covers how to balance life, relationships and screen time; digital citizenship, ethical use and brain development; protecting online privacy; how to conduct safe and healthy online relationships; managing one’s digital reputation; and maximizing security from passwords to viruses.
“We’re thrilled to partner with PDLN in order to get important information regarding digital literacy to the people who need it most—educators working with our digital kids,” said Diana Graber, co-founder of Cyberwise.org. “PDLN’s expertise in competency-based professional learning, and particularly their ability to award micro-credentials and digital badges, and to connect educators with university professional development units, are added-value items that we are delighted to be able to offer.”
PDLN’s credentialed reviewers assess course participants’ evidence of learning against a rigorous evaluation rubric and award digital badges that can be shared with colleagues, potential employers, students, parents and more. Like all PDLN certified badge courses, the Cyberwise course includes opportunities for educators to demonstrate competency while creating materials and experiences they can use in class with their own students.

Cyber Attack at Wendy's Affects Area Locations

DUBLIN, Ohio (PRNewswire) - The Wendy's Company (NASDAQ: WEN) updated its customers today regarding malicious cyber activity experienced at some Wendy's® restaurants. The Company first reported unusual payment card activity affecting some franchise-owned restaurants in February 2016. Subsequently, on June 9, 2016, the Company reported that an additional malware variant had been identified and disabled. Today, the Company, on behalf of affected franchise locations, is providing information about specific restaurant locations that may have been impacted by these attacks, all of which are located in the U.S., along with support for customers who may have been affected by the malware variants.
Wendy's customers are encouraged to learn more about this new information at the following address: www.wendys.com/notice. The update includes a list of restaurant locations that may have been involved in the incidents, as well as information on how customers can protect their credit and details regarding how potentially affected customers can receive one year of complimentary fraud consultation and identity restoration services. A link to the update can also be found on the Company's homepage, www.wendys.com.
Working closely with third-party forensic experts, federal law enforcement and payment card industry contacts as part of its ongoing investigation, the Company has determined that specific payment card information was targeted by the additional malware variant. This information included cardholder name, credit or debit card number, expiration date, cardholder verification value, and service code.
Generally, individuals that report unauthorized charges in a timely manner to the bank or credit card company that issued their card are not responsible for those charges. As always, in line with prudent personal financial management, we encourage our customers to be diligent in watching for unauthorized charges on their payment cards.
The Company believes the criminal cyber-attacks resulted from service providers' remote access credentials being compromised, allowing access – and the ability to deploy malware – to some franchisees' point-of-sale systems. To date, there has been no indication in the ongoing investigation that any Company-operated restaurants were impacted by this activity.
The Company worked with investigators to disable the malware involved in the first attack earlier this year. Soon after detecting the malware variant involved in the latest attack, the Company identified a method of disabling it and thereafter disabled it in all franchisee restaurants where it was discovered. The investigation has confirmed that criminals used malware believed to have been effectively deployed on some Wendy's franchisee systems starting in late fall 2015.
The Company has continued to update customers on the progress of its investigation, most recently on June 9. Previous updates can be found on www.wendys.com.

Campbell's Urges Congress to Enact National Mandatory GMO Labeling

CAMDEN, N.J.- () - For years the effort to require GMO labeling has been opposed by the very food producers it would regulate.  Now However, the tide may be changing, Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) yesterday, July 5, 2016,  urged Congress and the President to enact bipartisan legislation proposed by the U.S. Senate that directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to craft a national mandatory disclosure system for foods made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as soon as possible.
Campbell applauds Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for their proposal to help consumers more easily access information about GMOs in foods. The bill paves the way for a single national standard with multiple options for disclosure. Campbell remains committed to printing clear and simple language on the labels of all of its U.S. products.
The company is in discussions with the USDA and the Food and Drug Administration about its plans to develop on-pack language that is easy for consumers to understand and clearly identifies the presence of ingredients derived from GMO crops.
In January, Campbell was the first major food company to announce support for a single mandatory labeling standard and its commitment to label all of its U.S. products.
